World of Hyatt Explorist and Globalist members, this one is for you.
While we’ve already discussed how American elites can enjoy World of Hyatt status if they register by Nov. 30, there’s a new way for World of Hyatt Explorist and Globalist members to earn American AAdvantage status.
Starting today, World of Hyatt Explorist and Globalist members can enjoy instant American Airlines AAdvantage status through American’s new status program, Instant Status Pass.
And best of all, if you participate in this promotion, your new elite status will reflect immediately (in our tests), so you can start enjoying your AAdvantage today.
Here’s what you can expect:
Explorist members are eligible for instant AAdvantage Platinum status and must earn at least 25,000 Loyalty Points within four months of registering to extend AAdvantage Platinum.
Globalist members are eligible for instant AAdvantage Platinum Pro status and must earn at least 42,000 Loyalty Points within four months of registering to extend AAdvantage Platinum Pro.
Explorist or Globalist members become AAdvantage Executive Platinum members if they earn 67,000 Loyalty Points within four months of registering.
To participate in the challenge, you must link your Hyatt and American loyalty accounts by Dec. 12, 2022, if you haven’t already. Then, you must register for American’s Instant Status Pass by Dec. 28, 2022.
If you’ve linked your World of Hyatt account and have Explorist or Globalist status, you’ll see a place to register for the Instant Status Pass.
How Instant Status Pass works
While Instant Status Pass can be a great way to enjoy American Airlines status from day one, it’s not easy to grasp.
Instant Status Pass divides the calendar into three — or as American calls it, phase 1, phase 2 and phase 3. You need to accrue a certain number of Loyalty Points every four months (phase) to extend your status.
As a Globalist member, my account immediately upgraded to Platinum Pro status when I registered for Instant Status Pass this morning. To retain Platinum Pro, I must earn 42,000 Loyalty Points for phase 1 (by Mar. 28, 2023/four months from today). I’ll lose my status if I don’t earn 42,000 Loyalty Points by this date.
If I earn 42,000 Loyalty Points by Mar. 28, I’ll move into phase 2. As you’d expect, for phases 2 and 3, I would need to earn 42,000 Loyalty Points again. Any Loyalty Points earned over the 42,000 will be rolled over to phase 2. For example, if I earn 50,000 Loyalty Points in phase 1, 8,000 Loyalty Points would be rolled into phase 2, meaning that I’d need to earn 34,000 Loyalty Points during phase 2 to extend my Platinum Pro status to phase 3.
Here’s how many Loyalty Points you need each phase (every four months) using American’s Instant Status Pass:
Gold: 10,000 Loyalty Points.
Platinum: 25,000 Loyalty Points.
Platinum Pro: 42,000 Loyalty Points.
Executive Platinum: 67,000 Loyalty Points.
If you’re an Explorist member, you’ll enjoy Platinum status for the next four months (phase 1) immediately after registering for the promotion. If you earn 42,000 Loyalty Points in phase 1, American will upgrade your status to Platinum Pro. Similarly, if an Explorist or Globalist member earns 67,000 Loyalty Points in phase 1, they would enjoy Executive Platinum status for phase 2.
Hyatt Explorist members enjoy instant AA Platinum status for four months, while Hyatt Globalist members enjoy instant AA Platinum Pro status for four months with American’s Instant Status Pass.
While the program isn’t the most straightforward, it could be a great way to enjoy American Airlines status. Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum status come with many benefits, like first class upgrades on some American and Alaska Airlines flights. Additionally, Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum members enjoy Oneworld Emerald status, which you can use to access some of the best first class lounges in the skies.
